This week, we express gratitude and appreciation to two board members who spent six years helping us become a more effective and impactful organization. Stefanie Christmas and Jim Nevels are stepping off our board this year and we want to thank them for their service.

Stefanie Christmas
Board Member (2020–2026), Advancement Committees
Stefanie Christmas is the kind of strategic thinker who elevates any discussion by just being in the room. As a seasoned management consultant with significant experience across public and private sectors, her command of organizational development, systems, and people have been invaluable as the Prison Society has grown significantly during her tenure.
Stefanie has been the co-chair of our Advancement Committee and was a driving force behind our previous and current strategic planning processes. She is a magnet – people get involved because of her. The base of engagement and support she’s helped create will carry this organization forward.

Jim Nevels
Board Member (2020–2026), Executive & Finance Committees
Jim is someone who has reached the highest levels of success in American business life. He is the founder and Chairman of The Swarthmore Group, an investment advisory firm, and has served on numerous corporate and civic boards throughout his career. He was the first Black board president of a Fortune 500 company in the United States.
He came to the Prison Society because he cares genuinely and deeply about people in prison. He brought his financial acumen and commitment to corporate citizenship. He also brought a commitment to take seriously our obligation to people inside and a connection to our mission that is unparalleled.
Both Stefanie and Jim sought us out. They believed in our mission and committed themselves to helping us do better. We are a stronger organization because of them.
