Kareem (Kerry) McNeil

Incarcerated Person of the Year, SCI Phoenix

We are thrilled to announce Kareem McNeil as our 2023 Incarcerated Person of the Year.

Kareem’s 40-year commitment to the SCI Phoenix community is truly remarkable. He co-founded the Real Street Talk Foundation, which focuses on guiding young people away from actions that may lead to incarceration. Their recent "Apology Summit," centered on remorse and redemption for lifers, victims, and their families, further exemplifies Kareem's deep commitment to restorative justice. Additionally, Kareem helped start an organization called Pull of Gravity, aimed at assisting men in their reentry into communities, offering mentorship for successful reintegration.

Kareem's leadership, boundless compassion, and enduring impact on the lives of those within the SCI Phoenix community and beyond are truly commendable. We celebrate Kareem's leadership, compassion, and ongoing impact.

We'll be honoring Kareem and all of our annual award winners in person at our annual LOVE ABOVE BARS event on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at World Café Live in Philadelphia. Event guests will enjoy heavy hors oeuvres, wine and beer, entertainment, and a brief program.

We are thrilled to celebrate with “pay what you wish” tickets for the reception as well as sponsorship opportunities that allow organizations to showcase their support for the Prison Society’s work. Guests must register in advance to attend the event. Click here for tickets and sponsorships.

Out of town guests: We have reserved a block of rooms at a reduced rate for anyone traveling to the event. Reserve your room before September 13 at Motto Philadelphia with this Prison Society Booking Link. For questions, email
