Being part of a communications network as a volunteer has been helpful - at times frustrating, fulfilling, and cathartic.

I was asked by the significant other of an [incarcerated person] to visit him at SCI Greene. I listened to the concerns he had. After visits at different prisons, I realized there were conditions throughout the system. Because the best decisions weren't made as an [incarcerated person] was being processed and [because] he or she didn't or couldn't correct or communicate the issue on the "inside," I could be helpful from the "outside."

There is a greater need for [volunteers] because prison populations are alarmingly increasing. Being part of a communications network as a volunteer has been helpful -- at times frustrating, fulfilling, and cathartic.
