I was already volunteering at SCI Rockview. A guy I knew, Mike, was in dire need of surgery for a hernia, and he was being ignored. I called Prison Society and he got his surgery soon after. I wanted to honor the amazing power of Prison Society’s Official Visitors.
There is lots of work to do inside the walls of Pennsylvania’s prisons, but the most important part of visiting is just being present and recognizing another's humanity. Witnessing the truth that we all belong to one another.
