Pa. prisons serve 1M+ meals a week, but get less oversight than hot dog carts
Jails and prisons across the state serve more than 1 million meals a week but are exempt from restaurant inspections. Instead, the Department of Corrections inspects the facilities for a range of safety, security and sanitation issues. State law gives the DOC little recourse to punish jails if they are out of compliance.
