Most deaths in Pa. jails went unreported despite rules: 'It is appalling
Joseph Klinger was found unconscious in his cell inside the Centre County Correctional Facility on June 15, 2020. He died in a hospital the next day. The coroner ruled his death a suicide. Federal and state laws require counties to report deaths of people who are in the custody of police, jails or prisons. But Klinger’s death wasn’t reported to the state Department of Corrections or to federal authorities.
