About Graterfriends

Gratefriends is a publication produced by and for incarcerated people. Launched in 1981 by Joan Gauker, Graterfriends serves a vital role in amplifying the voices of incarcerated people and their experiences. The Prison Society took over production and distribution of Graterfriends in 2002, and now more than 900 incarcerated subscribe annually.


Graterfriends is released bimonthly and available to be shipped to both county and State Correctional Institutions.
