CAREERS AND INTERNSHIPS
Spring 2020 Internships (Unpaid)
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING INTERN APPLICATIONS FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER OF 2020.
For the upcoming summer term, internships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students. Interns also have the option to stay on for the full academic year. As an intern at the Pennsylvania Prison Society, you will learn about public safety and the correctional system as you help us meet the complex needs of incarcerated people and their families by participating in the daily operations of our offices.
We will be accepting three types of interns this fall:
General. Undergraduate and graduate students who will assist with a range of responsibilities related to all aspects of our programs, including monitoring prison conditions, assisting incarcerated people and people returning to the community from incarceration, and helping families of incarcerated people. A general internship is a commitment of 10 hours per week at minimum.
Journalism. Undergraduate and graduate students with a focus in journalism who will assist with the publication of Graterfriends, our newsletter for and by incarcerated people. Interns participate in all aspects of publication. A journalism internship is a commitment of 10 hours per week at minimum.
Fundraising and Communications. Undergraduate students with a focus in fundraising and communications will assist with social media, e-newsletters, and our customer relationship management system. Fundraising and Communications interns will come away with a deep and practical understanding of supporting a non-profit organization. A fundraising and communications internship is a commitment of 10 hours per week at minimum.
All interns will have the opportunity to tour a prison, meet with people recently home after a period of incarceration, learn the history of incarceration in Pennsylvania, and attend multiple cultural and civil events.
