The Responsibility Pledge

Individuals who recognize that living a responsible life is important for healthy lives, relationships and communities adopt the following pledge:

  1. I _____________________________________________ hereby pledge to dedicate a portion of every day to my own personal growth and self-improvement, including spiritual, intellectual, political and social. I will live my life in a manner that affirms and uplifts, not destroys, people.
  2. I will take full responsibility for my actions, including those that hurt other people. When I hurt others, I will apologize for my actions and take meaningful steps to repair the harm.
  3. I will continue to educate myself on the impacts of crime on victims and communities and be a support to people who have been harmed by crime. I will continue to educate myself on the experiences of offenders, and their families, and be a support to them as they seek to be responsible for their actions.
  4. I will continue to educate myself on the social, economic and political conditions that contribute to the deterioration of community life and to crime. I will develop associations with others who are working to improve community and societal conditions.
  5. I will live a life that is committed to improving the quality of life and will strive to be a healing presence for those around me. I will do my best to let my actions serve as an example to family, friends and the community.
  6. I will build connections with others who share my vision for a healthy community and will actively support efforts that improve community life and work to strengthen relationships between people.
